The Elks Provincial Walkathon for Hearing Impaired Children is a major event.
The Elks of Saskatchewan is the major supporter of SPARC, the Saskatchewan Pediatric Auditory Rehabilitation Centre ( childrens' hearing centre), located in the University Hospital in Saskatoon. Here's a link to their website: SPARC
We raise funds in three ways: a province-wide raffle, cash donations, and fundraising events throughout the province.
Raffle tickets are sold from late May to mid-October by Elks members all over Saskatchewan, individually and at malls and stores.
Cash donations are gratefully accepted. Send cheques directly to the Saskatchewan Elks Association, 508-12th St. E., Saskatoon, Sask., S7N 0H2. Indicate that the donation is for the Provincial Walkathon. Tax-deductible receipts will be issued for donations over $20.00.
Events to raise funds for the Elks Provincial Walkathon for Hearing Impaired Children will be held throughout the year, throughout the province. Districts, lodges and individuals are welcome to hold events. View and download the information package.
Our main annual Walkathon is held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in October. Provincial Elks meetings are held on Friday. On Saturday morning there's a Cenotaph Service, and the Walkathon is held in the afternoon, with short and long routes. The banquet speaker is the director of SPARC, followed by a family that was helped by SPARC. A dance follows. The raffle draw is held during the dance. Net proceeds are forwarded to SPARC. Lodges in Saskatchewan bid for the opportunity to host the Walkathon. If your Lodge is interested in hosting the main Walkathon, here's a bid form. In 2015 it was in Nipawin; in 2014 it was in Moosomin; in 2013 it was in Moose Jaw.
In 2016 it was in Shaunavon on October 15th.
